My editor has read the first (rough) draft of Book 9, and he loves it. I'm on the home stretch now — the end is in sight (in more ways than one). Over the next two or three weeks my head is going to be down and I'm going to working hard to fill in those gaps, to link up those scenes, to write those missing chapters. Right now I'm at 100,000 words. The end result will PROBABLY be about 120,000 words — maybe just slightly shorter than KOTW. Of course, in order to finish the book, I'll need to pick a winner of the Who Gets to Die competition we ran ages ago, and then that lucky reader will get to meet their grisly end...
And because I, and therefore WE, are on the home stretch, this blog is going to be choc-a-block with announcements and reveals over the next few weeks. By the end of THIS week, for example, we'll be revealing the cover for the Armageddon-Outta-Here short story collection. Next week, we'll reveal the full, WRAPAROUND cover for the collection (it's awesome). And the week after that? We'll be revealing the title for the ninth, and last, Skulduggery Pleasant book.

@Star: *nods* Yeah. I think if you stop your brain kind of separates itself from wherever it was when you started writing, and then, like, how do you get it back there again?
My trouble atm is that I can't keep it focussed at one point for more than a moment, so I get down, like, fifty words and then jump to another random thing and write maybe 30 words, that are completely disconnected from the first moment I wrote, because I can't stick things together, kind of? :P
So the last thing that I wrote was three random moments, last week.
One minute there's a guy with a phone and a possibly-dead-female-human, and then there's a space, and you're outside a school and the fire alarm is ringing, and then it's a Saturday and somebody is responding to a letter he received.
And I have no idea what they ARE. They're just random moments that I'm like, 'maybe if I write enough moments I can arrange them all and they'll fit together and I'll have a story to write'
Which didn't work out because I STOPPED and now I can't even write another moment. *facepalms* :P

Omg we went to Seaside yesterday. I'm still shaken. If you remember I was freaking out in the fall because the boardwalk was on fire. Well....I saw the boardwalk. Its like less than halfway down the boardwalk its gone. You see a fence and it looks like they placed the foundation for the new boardwalk but they haven't placed boards yet. They also have a foundation built for a restiraunt/bar that was destroyed in Sandy, but thats where the break is. They tore up the boardwalk to save the rest. I mean once you're past the fire point everything is normal, granted there are empty stands but...hey. I'm just stunned because that was so horrible and...here we are months later...

I tend to often just make up characters quickly - like, in my story segment I started yesterday, I had two characters already, three if you include Hunter (who was, um, unconscious, so he doesn't really count, but), and then I needed another five, and then I kind of get an idea of a basic personality, and I can try and stick to that, and from that personality, I can kind of think, what type of person would they be?
And if I needed to, maybe I could think about who they would be, and what caused them to get where they were, and what kind of families they have if they have any, and then if I needed to I could kind of work out from this skeleton-life system what would have happened to them so far that morning, and so how they would be feeling on that day, and so how they would react, and then if I wanted, if I needed to, I could kind of follow them someplace, make something happen to them, work out what they'd do next, how they'd respond, what that would lead to, and -
idk. :P

Lol - my family likes playing a game called New Super Mario Bros on the Wii (or did - it got more boring once we completed it), and there's these item hours, and you go in, and then you climb about on this wire net thing with all these panels. And you take it in turn to hit a panel, and when you hit it, it will spin around to reveal either an item or Bowser/Bowser Junior. And you have to get two panels showing each item in order to obtain that item. But if you get two of the bad squares, you're out, game over.
And when my friend came over, she immediately went online and looked up these website where they have all the item house patterns and possibilities for all the different worlds, and so we could get all the items without hitting any of the bad squares. :P
It wasn't fun when we cheated like that, though . . .
So when she isn't here we just play it normally. :)
