Work is progressing. December and most of January was taken up with short stories. I still have to edit them. I'll have to do that soon, over the next few days... But I'm also back on the book. Writing away. Skipping chunks and writing important bits. I'm on the final confrontation now, making sure everything fits together. Even though there is a lot more writing to do, loads of gaps to fill in and storylines to link up, I am TECHNICALLY writing the end of the book at the moment. Will I finally get to find out how it ends? Or will I leave that blank also, to be finished off when everything else is complete?
I don't know. I really don't.
I have, maybe, another month of writing ahead of me before the first draft is done. Every morning I wake up, lie in bed for an hour (yes, it is good to be a writer) and think about the sequence I need to write that day. Then I'm up and writing. There is very little time to think about other things, such as writing blogs or tweeting, and I know you understand that, but I do want to thank you all for your patience. I don't like being silent for this long — but soon, I won't have to be.

Okay so.... this isn't exactly a ded, but... it is going to be now.
so any Hitchhiker fans will know that the meaning of life is forty two. And my family, being huge fans, are always being odd and makeing up questions that it could be the answer to. And I can tell you, we've had some odd ones. So.... heres a list of the most memorable:

"I know," Rebecca said, her voice soft. "Perhaps Mireille got caught in traffic."
Jessie's bunny and bear held hands to cross the chess board in the middle of the table.
"Perhaps." The only way there would be traffic at this hour was if there'd been an accident. Somehow, that didn't make André feel any less worried.
Jessie's bunny went over to André's muffin and nibbled at the corner. He smiled slightly. "You can have it, Jessie."
The little girl devoured the muffin in two seconds flat.
"We should get her some lunch," Rebecca said.
"Here?" André frowned at the case of packaged foods, a fruit cup, a cheese plate and a box of veggies and ranch dressing.
"Well, we can hardly go home, can we?"
He hated how hard this must be on her. If he'd been born anyone else, this wouldn't have happened, and his family would be safe. He'd made his choice, and he'd found a happiness with his wife and daughter that shadows could never give him.
"Rebecca," he said, looking into her eyes. "I'll do everything I can to keep you and Jessie safe."
"I know," she said, a tear trickling down her cheek. She didn't mention that that's what she was worried about, that André would end up hurting himself trying to save her. "Please... Think of your own safety as well. I know you're better at dealing with things like this, but..."
"Excuse me? Are you Mr. and Mrs. Cavendish?"
André and Rebecca turned to see a somewhat short somewhat elderly man. His voice was raspy, like he had a cold.
"Yes," André said somewhat guardedly. "What do you want?"
"I have an envelope for you, from your sister, Mr. Cavendish. She can't be here, but she sent this."
André took the envelope. It bulged slightly, and he wasn't sure whether or not it would be wise to open it.
"If you would prefer me to open it and show its contents to you, I can certainly do so."
André shook his head. He opened it took out an amulet with a gold swirly-ish symbol.

I never have seen so much homework given and my friend took every AP and Honors class and she still has less homework then what you have. My friend C said today that she wanted to tell me something, but she wasn't sure if she did because I would think she was insane or might start crying or something, but she was probably going to tell me anyway.
We didn't do any work in that science lesson. We just talked.
She said, imagine you're going to start crying for no reason. And she said, imagine that prickling feeling hurting the back of your eyes, and the tears pressing behind your eyelids and wanting to leak out. And then she said imagine that in your mind. She said imagine what it would be like to go insane.
Then she said - imagine insanity is a place *taps table*. And normality is another place, over here *taps another part of the table*. And there's a road between the two, and you have to walk that road.
And she said that she was walking in the wrong direction, towards insanity, but she couldn't help it, her feet kept moving.
I said that it was like she was on a conveyor belt, a conveyor belt that slide towards insanity and even though she kept running against it she was being dragged backwards.
She said exactly.
And anyway, she said she didn't know what to do, because however hard she tried she wasn't moving towards normality, she was just stopping moving towards insanity, and when she got tired or anything she was being dragged so she couldn't ever stop.
And I asked, would in be so bad if she went to insanity?
I said that a lot of people didn't want to live in Hull because they thought it sucked and if they lived there they're become a chav, but actually it was quite ace.
She said, imagine you're strapped down in this insane asylum, and you have chains around your hands so you won't harm yourself, and you don't want to harm yourself, you just want to explain, except you can't explain, because no one will listen to you, and you want' to ask them why they won't listen, and they've all given up on you. She said that would be her when she was older. And she said imagine you were stuck here, in this room, and it was horrible, it was the worst thing ever, and then you imagined what it would be like after ten years stuck in this place, after twenty, and if it was almost unbearable now, how bad would it be then? And she said, if you could end it quietly and painlessly, and save yourself having to go through all those years of suffering, wouldn't you do it?

And I said, for one thing, not everyone would give up on her. I wouldn't give up. Secondly, I spoke about how if even prisons were all about rehabilitation, then mental hospitals definitely would be because it's not like you're even consciously wanting to hurt people. Thirdly, I said that there was always hope, and that it was like euthanasia, and that maybe, if you killed yourself, something that would save you might be developed just the next month, and you would never know. If you die, you kill all that possibility, and you don't KNOW what might happen.
And she said, imagine you live out your entire life on this table, and if you fall off the edge, you fall and go splat. And you walk over to the edge *moves her fingers to the edge of the table*, and you don't want to but your feet are making you, and the edge is crumbling and you're scared it's going to give way. And you look over, and you see how far you will have to fall, and you're imagining hitting the ground, and when you hit it, it is going to HURT. It's going to be horrible. And if you could do something to end it halfway down the fall, so you could go quietly and painlessly without ever going splat, wouldn't you do that?
And I said, but you don't know what might happen on the way, and alien spaceship might come down and rescue you. And plus, you didn't know it was going to be bad, hitting the ground. How did you know it was going to be horrible?
And she said - well, because you can see it.
And I said - you can't see the wind. So how do you know the wind's there?
And she said because she could FEEL it. And she couldn't feel that it was going to be nice, hitting the ground, so why would it be?
I asked if she'd ever hit the ground before.
And she said no.
And I said, then how do you know?

I said that, however, occasionally the names can gain control, and sometimes they can 'come out' and then they can control Niccolò's body and walk about and talk to us and stuff, and they're alive again. And I said that in her head, there wouldn't be 48 other names to compete with, there'd just be her. And maybe it would be difficult, but eventually she'd gain control.

And she said, imagine you're running in a marathon. And you run around and around this track with all these other runners. And some of them are better at you, so they draw ahead, and you're just left lagging at the back because you're unhealthy or whatever and not good at running. And you've completed the first lap and it was so hard, so hard, and you're so tired, and then you realise you have four more to go, and wouldn't it just be easier to just end it so you didn't have to do all that? Because whatever you did, you would never catch them up.
And I was saying - why do you have to catch up with them?
And she was saying, because you have to finish on time.
And I said, why do you have to finish the race anyway?
And she said, yes, exactly.
And I said, why did you not just take a short cut and cut across the grass?
And she said, well, you would probably be excluded or something.
And I said, well, be excluded then!
And she was like, I can't be excluded from my life!
And I said, yes you can. I mean, what is life? You get to school and get qualifications and get a job and have kids or whatever and then retire and then die. Why should you go and do all that? Why would you not, like, go off and live in a cave somewhere?
And she tapped an area of the table away from the area designated as a running track, and asked what the cave represented.
And I said, well safety, and probably loneliness, but if you had solar panels you could generate electricity and go on the internet and talk to people online and so you wouldn't be lonely, and . . .

And I said, near the end, after we'd been silent for a while - I said I didn't think insanity was a place. I thought that everyone's minds were in different places, like different houses, and they were all different to each other and totally unique, and that you could never go in anyone else's house, and that sometimes you moved houses, and that wasn't necessarily bad.
And I said that the only thing that made my metaphor better than her metaphor was that mine didn't end in despair.
(And then I said that actually, it depended on what you called better, and that also, neither one was better than the other, and that even though they contradicted each other they were both correct, and it wasn't what was there, it was how you perceived things, but none of that was actually helping my case. :P)
And that was science.

Okay, so I'm sorting through all these German vocab sheets, which are mainly random photocopies, and I found this page and I THINK IT'S FROM THE SAME PEOPLE WHO DO MY SCIENCE REVISION GUIDES ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH A:AKHF:SOKNF:SM<D.
Okay, so the heading looks identical to the pages in the revision guides.
It has a little sentence under it that has exactly the same tone as the ones in my revision guides.
"Fantastich - PSHE in German, you lucky, lucky people. At least you should all have an opinion on this without having to try too hard."
And then the subheadings look identical.
And sentences in the same informal, bad joke-y tone.
And then, and this is the big that caught my eye, they have the revision tip at the bottom on the same box, the headings looking the same, and the heading is a bad joke.
Some examples from science - "Microwaves - for when you're only slightly sad to say goodbye . . ."
"All sheep die. Elvis is dead, so he must be a sheep . . ."
The German one - "Yes - I 'isst' healthy . . ."
And the a tip thing.

Huh. I was just reading about emotions, because I like to do these things, and it gave three tips - number one, to try and identify your emotions, number two, to rate how strong the feeling is, and number three, to share your emotions and tell people how you're feeling.
Two of those are things I've been trying to do less.

Five ways to respectfully disagree according to this awesome website I just found (because idk, I think it's a useful skill?):
1.Don't make it personal. If you get upset, it can help to remember you're mad at the idea or concept your parent (or friend, coach, coworker, etc.) is raising, not the person.
2.Avoid putting down the other person's ideas and beliefs. If you've ever been on the receiving end of someone's tirade or put-downs, you know how valuable using respectful language and behavior can be. So instead of saying what you might be thinking ("That's a stupid idea!"), try: "I don't agree, and here's why." Resist the temptation to yell, use sarcasm, or make derogatory comments and you'll have a much better chance of getting your point across.
3.Use "I" statements to communicate how you feel, what you think, and what you want or need. Using "you" statements can sound argumentative. For example, telling your mom or dad, "You always remind me about my chores on Wednesdays when you know I have a lot of homework" has a very different tone from "I'm feeling pressured because I have a lot of homework tonight. Can I do those chores tomorrow?"
4.Listen to the other point of view. Being a good listener is a way of showing that you respect and understand the other person's perspective. That makes it more likely he or she will do the same for you. When the other person is talking, try to stop yourself from thinking about why you disagree or what you'll say next. Instead, focus on what's being said. When it's your turn to talk, repeat any key points the other person made to show you listened and heard what was said. Then calmly present your case and why you disagree.
5.Stay calm. This is the most important thing you can do to keep a conversation on track. Of course, it's a huge challenge to stay calm and rational when you feel angry or passionate about something — especially if the person you're talking to gets heated. You may need to be the mature one who manages the conversation, even if the other person is a parent or someone who should know better.
