gibber.

Work is progressing. December and most of January was taken up with short stories. I still have to edit them. I'll have to do that soon, over the next few days... But I'm also back on the book. Writing away. Skipping chunks and writing important bits. I'm on the final confrontation now, making sure everything fits together. Even though there is a lot more writing to do, loads of gaps to fill in and storylines to link up, I am TECHNICALLY writing the end of the book at the moment. Will I finally get to find out how it ends? Or will I leave that blank also, to be finished off when everything else is complete?

I don't know. I really don't.

I have, maybe, another month of writing ahead of me before the first draft is done. Every morning I wake up, lie in bed for an hour (yes, it is good to be a writer) and think about the sequence I need to write that day. Then I'm up and writing. There is very little time to think about other things, such as writing blogs or tweeting, and I know you understand that, but I do want to thank you all for your patience. I don't like being silent for this long — but soon, I won't have to be.

Soon.

Is that actual game footage? Like, a six minute cutscreen?

#ChaseForBook9

Dragona Pine said...

Yep, actual game footage. Six minute cutscene. :)

Mary Contrary said...

Cutscene! That's what I meant to say. I KNEW cutscreen did not sound right! :P

But, cool. *nods*
Are there a lot of those?
I tend to get impatient and end up mashing buttons like "WHY CAN'T I SKIP YOOOUUUUUUUU..?" :P
It looked pretty good, though. ^^

Taia, Taia, Taia. Although Mass Effect is VERY fun to play, it's strength lies in the cutscenes and the story. No cutscenes, and you won't understand anything. Mash buttons, and you'll probably wipe out someone's race.
It's not like it's JUST all "cutscenes everywhere". You CHOOSE things during the cutscenes. You choose what to say etc, and most of the story is conducted through them.

Mary Contrary said...

*nods* Yeah, I guess it depends on the game, because that, kind of, different levels of significance, y'know? Sometimes it'll just be like "Hey. You did a thing! *sparkles*" and I'm like, "That's what I just spent the past half hour trying to do. I KNOW." If there's a point to it, I guess that's different.
I still use the PS2 more than the PS3, also, so the quality itself is kind of terrifying, sometimes. :P

It makes sense to make the cutscenes interactive, though. *nods* And if they're important, yeah, I get that. ^^

Dragona Pine said...

Wait, damn it. He doesn't have it on the right option. A lot of the time during the cutscenes, a little wheel will pop up. You'll be able to choose a paragon option, which is nice, a neutral option, and a renegade "bad" option. Lots of missions require you to make decisions this way. For example on Mass Effect 1 on Virmire, you're trying to destroy a facility with a nuke and your team splits into two. Well, one member of your squad goes with one team, then the other person stays with you. You choose who goes. Part way through, both you and they get assaulted by enemies and you have to choose whether to go to the help of the guy with the squad, or stay and help the person who stayed with you. Whoever you don't help well... dies.

Then in ME3 you have to choose who to save between a race of robots called the Geth, and the Quarians.

Mary Contrary said...

I think your comment poofed, because I can't... see it. But I'm just over a minute in and I see what you mean. *nods* Introductory information. I guess you need that. *nods*

OH, right. That's a pretty good in order to give you a level of responsibility or control, to some extent, over what's going on, I guess. Like, you can choose who lives and who dies, but you can't choose nobody lives, or nobody dies? It's a freedom within what would be otherwise be only a limitation, though, if that makes sense?

You chose Quarians, I'll bet? :P

#ChaseForBook9

Dragona Pine said...

I did choose Quarians. This time I'm playing Mass Effect 2 right so I'm on my path to get peace between the two races. The last time I played it I made a few mistakes.

However, the things you do during the cutscenes will change the endings of the games. Which is pretty cool.

Mary Contrary said...

YEah, I like that.
You have different consequences depending on your choice of actions.
*nods*

Mary Contrary said...

Darn. I've gotta go.
It was good talking with you, Dragona. ^^

Dragona Pine said...

I like doing the cutscenes. Some of them are really funny. Like when I found a Krogan who had been like experimented on in the middle of a genetic facility. He started complaining, so I chose the paragon option which was something like, "It'd take a real badass to get back to your clan's base whilst wounded."
The Krogan said something like, "I can do it"
Then I chose the bad option which said, "I said a badass, not some sort of baby who complains like a Quarian with a stomach ache"
Quarian crew member: "Hey! I'm stood right here!"

Dragona Pine said...

Bye Taia!

Hm.

My brother has appeared to have cut his hand from falling onto the ice. There's ice everywhere- it's wild. Some of the ice has been falling off the roof at my school, so they had to close off a particular section- I'm guessing it might have accidentally almost hit someone, else no one might have noticed.

Imagine, being impaled by an icicle. That wouldn't be fun..

Also, I just wanted to share these two quotes with you all:

"Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail."

"To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment."

Both of which are extra-sharp cheddar, but I like them.

I prefer Emerson's "Self Reliance" more, but these will do.

Time is tedious, it seems.

"There is a time in every man's education when he arrives at the conviction that envy is ignorance; that imitation is suicide; that he must make himself better, for worse, as his portion; that through the wide universe is full of good, no kernel of nourishing corn can come to him but through the toil bestowed on that plot of ground which is given to him to till."

"We but half express ourselves, and are ashamed of the divine idea which each of us represents.

"God will not have his work made manifest by cowards. It needs a divine man to exhibit anything divine."

"And we are now men, and must accept in the highest mind the same transcendent destiny"

"Nothing is at last sacred but the integrity of our own mind."

"With consistency a great soul has simply nothing to do. He may as well concern himself with his shadow on the wall."

"The virtue in most request is conformity. Self- reliance is its aversion."
