Work is progressing. December and most of January was taken up with short stories. I still have to edit them. I'll have to do that soon, over the next few days... But I'm also back on the book. Writing away. Skipping chunks and writing important bits. I'm on the final confrontation now, making sure everything fits together. Even though there is a lot more writing to do, loads of gaps to fill in and storylines to link up, I am TECHNICALLY writing the end of the book at the moment. Will I finally get to find out how it ends? Or will I leave that blank also, to be finished off when everything else is complete?
I don't know. I really don't.
I have, maybe, another month of writing ahead of me before the first draft is done. Every morning I wake up, lie in bed for an hour (yes, it is good to be a writer) and think about the sequence I need to write that day. Then I'm up and writing. There is very little time to think about other things, such as writing blogs or tweeting, and I know you understand that, but I do want to thank you all for your patience. I don't like being silent for this long — but soon, I won't have to be.

"Not going to work," she said plainly, and before he can bother himself to ask why, adds on "Someone is clearly trying to kill me, and the last three days have very nearly killed you, and you need a day off. I don't care if you can handle it- I'm not willing to take the risk. Besides, it's one day, and it's not as though the world will end because I take one day off."
Niccolò takes a deep breath even though it hurts, and she wonders if he knows how much it hurts her to hear him constantly insist that she can't share the pain. Thick silence hung in the air like a thick blanket weighing on both of them so she broke it, even though he already knew what she would say. "I've sent in a report, and Freck took the case- she'll figure out who's behind it in no time." She took a breath, feeling useless, and continued. "Could you sleep, if you wanted to?"
"No," he replied softly. He had been healing at a rather impressive rate, but the number and severity of injuries he'd had was still overwhelming.
Aretha laughed warily. "But, seriously, who disrupts a construction site just to hopefully impale someone with a large metal beam? And the whole holding-me-down-while-a-car-just-happens-to-show-up thing would have worked really well, but that made it pretty obvious that someone was intentionally trying to kill me. The sniper was a good idea, but still. Whoever was doing this should know better. And I should probably get myself one of those bulletproof clipboards..." She reminded herself that she still couldn't rip a clipboard in half. "Shall I put something on?"
"If you wish," he answered plainly. She knew any noise that might distract him from heartbeats and the steady churn of organs would be a welcome relief- hallucinations were a common side effect of such intimate sounds, and even though he'd grown used to them and could usually tell they weren't really there, it was nice to not have to think so much.
She flipped through some channels, amused herself by thinking of channeling, and settled on an old black and white comedy. She didn't notice the wind picking up outside, or the frost that devoured her windows too quickly to be natural.

My friend C said today that life was like knitting.
And it's such a good metaphor, because you just keep adding on all these stiches, and you don't really know what this thing you're doing is or why you're doing it, and then when you finish knitting it, you suddenly know what it is and it's complete.
And maybe we don't know where the hell we're going.
But if we keep knitting, then maybe it'll all make sense in the end. :)
Oh my gosh, though . . . in science, she pointed at this structure hanging form the ceiling. There were several things hanging from the ceiling, and the one she pointed at was meant to be the sun, and it was sort of made of lots of thin strips and they were painted yellow and the ball was hollow and just made up of these strips.
And she said that the world was life that sun, and that maybe if or two strips were absent it didn't make much difference, but if too many were gone, it ceased to be a ball and just kind of fell apart.
And I was like O_O and then insisted I needed to take a picture of this sun so I could tell this metaphor to you lot properly.
And C said that maybe I could ask Miss at the end of the lesson.
And I was like - if I just get my phone out, do you think anyone will notice?
And C was like errr.
So I just sort of held it up nd took a picture and everyone was looking at me like "HOLLY!"
And then Miss asked me what I was doing and I, not being able to lie like that, said I needed to take a picture of the sun so I didn't forget it.
And the whole class was just looking at me like WHAT.
And they were like how do you forget the SUN?
And I was like no, not that sun out the window, that sun on the ceiling. And someone pointed out the window and I went not that sun the other sun.
And then they were asking - why would you forget it?
And anyway, I acted insane enough that Miss didn't even tell me off or confiscate my phone, and . . . yeah.
Rather embarrassing. :P

I have absolutely rubbish describing skills when it comes to these things, so I knew I would need a picture. :P
I did try to draw it as soon as the photo failed.
That, and the next half hour of the lesson, pretty much convinced my tablemates that I was absolutely insane. :P
(I was trying to explain something to my friend and she wasn't getting it and we spent half an hour arguing through the use of various metaphorical forms. Then she was asking if anyone else could explain it because she couldn't understand me at all. :P)
(Then she had a panic attack.)
(And she had to go outside.)
(And the whole class was just asking what was wrong with her.)
(And I was the only one who knew she had panic attacks but I didn't really think she'd appreciate the whole school knowing so I just gave some vague answers about her not feeling great.)

ALSO I told my friend who I was calling V yesterday the wrappers analogy in art today when I was talking to her. And she said it was so great because it is so perfect in getting that precise meaning across, and it's so understandable, yet also is kind of fun because chocolate, y'know? And then she started laughing, which is good especially because I don't think she's exactly had the best time of it, so that was great.

(Although did you know that sometimes you can get to a stage where crying makes you feel worse, and if you try and prevent yourself crying you're more likely to get negative crying, so that's another reason why if you want to cry, you should cry. Because even if there seems like no reason for it, your body needs to cry, because crying makes it feel better.
That's what I read, anyway.
I get analytical when I'm sad, so I tend to wonder a lot of things about crying when I cry.)
