Well then.
As you know, I've been writing. Writing, writing, writing. You don't get to do an awful lot of other things when you're writing. Well, sometimes you do, but not when you have deadlines like these. The short stories I'm writing, all of them, need to be delivered by Wednesday. The first draft of Book Nine needs to be delivered by the middle of next month.
To say I am a tad busy would be something of an understatement.
Of course, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, and why would Jack want to be a dull boy? I've been doing things. Reading things. Watching things.
Take this evening, for instance. This evening I watched the last Sherlock of the current season. The first episode of the season was oddly character-driven, at the expense of the central mystery, but I didn't mind that in the least. The second episode, the wedding episode, was hilariously sublime. And the final episode, having Sherlock face off against a truly unique villain... well. It was just wonderful stuff.
And I've been reading. Stephen King, mostly. Going over his early works. His classics. When I was a kid, I went straight from The Three Investigators and the Hardy Boys to Stephen King and these wonderfully violent and detailed Gold Eagle books like The Executioner and Able Team and Phoenix Force, books that gave you diagrams of the weapons they used at the back of the book. Basically, I graduated from kids books to horror and action. And after a few Stephen King books like Cujo (the first King book I can remember reading) I went on to James Herbert and Shaun Hutson — overtly violent and brilliantly horrific.
And now, after all this time, I'm going back to Stephen King, and loving it all.
Recommendations? Read The Stand. Then read It. Two MASSIVE books. You won't be sorry.
So these things have been my break from the writing. Christmas, for me, was mostly about the short stories. But there was one story...
It started off fine. Exactly as I planned. It would be a new kind of story, something I hadn't really tried before. It would probably end up as one of the longer stories of the collection, though, but not by much.
I thought.
I have just finished it. Half an hour ago, I finished it. At the moment, before edits, it is over 20,000 words long. That's twice as long as The End of the World. So you'll be reading through Armageddon-Outta-Here (haw!), and hopefully enjoying the stories, and then you'll get to this brand new novella, a good, solid chunky story, and I think this story alone will make the collection worth the money.
I think. I hope. Right now I'm far too tired to form a coherent opinion. All I know is, I've been working hard. And it's not over yet.

I'm talking about the one who landed in Virginia, Pre-Colonial.
Well.
Almost colonial.
Like, well, not only was Pocahontas just a teenage girl and he in his 30s, but he said that she was different than the others ( similar to the Disney movie adaptation), but Smith wasn't above deceiving the Native Americans to get what he wanted.
Not only that, but he's killed a ton of people because he jumped wars across Europe as a volunteer.
And even after he came back to England, he still believed that the Natives were savages and uncivilized.

I might mention that I made pie.
The funeral parlour was crowded that day. Which meant, of course, that he couldn't go in. Jessica had a lot of friends. She must have grown to be a fine young woman, he thought. It was probably better for her that she didn't know him. Probably better that no one knew he existed- not even his own daughter. Not even now that it was too late. She only would've died sooner, he thought, if she'd known him. He thought. He prayed. He couldn't deal with any more blood on his hands. He flopped down on his bed. Immortality really lost its charm. Well, not quite immortality, he reminded himself. He was more like a lobster. He could die, but he never aged.
"Are you ready now?" A voice sounded from behind him. So smooth, so soft, that he didn't even start. He just thought to himself, exhaustedly, yes. God, yes. I just want to see my wife again. He looked up, and was surprised to notice a man in a long black coat.
"You're not death," he exclaimed, surprised. "You're... You're just a person."
"Oh, Antony," the stranger laughed, "You are so deluded, aren't you? The years must have clouded your mind. I almost don't want you anymore, but then... When has insanity stopped me before?"
Antony scrambled back a few steps, finally realizing how deeply in trouble he was. "You..." his voice trembled, and his hands scrambled about on the table beside him for something to use as a weapon. He felt something he thought might be heavy, and picked up- an alarm clock. After all these years, he thought to himself, the best you can do is an alarm clock. Then he sighed, and just before he began his last thought, his world went black.
When he woke, he couldn't stop spinning. Every sense was heightened- scents and sounds bombarded him from every direction, and his vision was so acute it almost blinded him. And the screaming... All that screaming... He didn't know if it was his, or someone else's, or maybe... He almost thought that it was both at once... And there were voices, so many voices. His hands were covered in blood, but they weren't his hands- and then he was moving, weilding all sorts of knives like an expert, but it wasn't really him moving, and he thought that maybe he was hurting someone, but he couldn't stop himself. He recognized someone else's laughter in his head. Is there no rest, he cried out, panicked to discover that his voice didn't work, even in death?!
Well, the soothing voice answered, suddenly seeming pained and genuine now that they were on the same plane, You did name yourself Neverrest. He even barely thought he heard I'm sorry.

That was the guy who made up the discipline of not aging. Other mages figured out what he was doing and wanted him to teach them, so they started going after his friends and family, so he faked his death and disappeared for quite a long time before Niccolò found him and stole his name. I could go into more detail about his wife, and his two daughters- there were two, initially- but I kind of like the style I did it in, I think...

He kills, he'll kill a group of powerful mages and I went after him to find her dead. He is mental, apparently the names agreed to keep him back. But he broke free.

(Epic story: so my history teacher went to Rome with a few others and they went to the Vadican and theres a dress policy to go in and so they were in long and heavy clothing and its July in Rome he estimated 103 F and so it was hot, they went out and he saw soda and bought it as he was thirsty, for $4 so the Italian tour guide asks is he still thirsty he nods and she takes them into an alley and he's thinking this is bad, long behold theres water pouring out, she says take some and they all do and they realize it was an aqueduct from Ancient Rome 2000 years ago. The guide knew where all 5 were and they went to them, they are used still today in Rome and they repair them and all. Neat eh?)
