MERRRRRRRRRY CHRISTMAS!
I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas day, whether you celebrate it or not. I hope this day is fun and filled with laughter and that you spend it surrounded by friends and family.
And to set you on your way, here is the Twelve Days of Fandom video (actually two videos, because apparently Youtube can't handle that much editing in one go). Thanks to everyone who took part — it has taken up two days of my life putting all this together, but it was so worth it. Some of you can really sing! And some of you really CAN'T. The videos I saw were funny, sweet, genuine, wacky, impressive, silly, and some of them were downright CUTE (Melissa and her doggy — I mean COME ON!)
The lyrics were written by myself and Laura Jordan (not Valkyrie-Laura, but an awesome Laura just the same!) and it features a special appearance by one Miss Holly Smale.

My friend gets so stressed out about exams, oh my gosh. She really does. D: And when we gets our marks, I find I'm always happier for her than I am for myself . . . because she was sitting there going "I'm going to get a D, I'm going to get a D," and when she gets an A or an A* she just looks so happy, whereas I'm kind of just like meh. :)
Her hair falls out when she gets stressed, and when we get results back from science tests she's always running her hand through her hair and pulling it out with a whole handful of hair on it. :P

Mom's alarm was supposed to go off ten minutes ago. Should I wake her? I mean, she was going to get up now and make breakfast, and I already did that bit, so she could sleep for another twenty minutes or so and we wouldn't be late, but on the other hand, I already made breakfast and she might want to eat it. Also, if she wakes up later, she'll probably panic. More than she usually does before travel ling. Yeah, I think I'll wake her.

You know I have that ignoring thing? Like, cliffhangers. I scream and then I shove it to the back of my mind and then I'm fine, and I can wait ages and ages to read the next book by simply not thinking about it. I just don't really think about exams and stuff, so I'm only really nervous once it's there.
It doesn't really help with revision incentive. :P

My French teacher gave us a sheet with Q&As on it about the exams we had in French this year, and she also had a few worries on the back, and how it was was she had a quote of a question/worry, and then she'd written a reassuring answer, and one of the quotes was "I have a fear of failing, I really hate failing." And my teacher had replied "I understand, I was exactly the same."
And then said if we prepared we'd be okay.
And it's just those sentences, you know? Some things just hit me emotionally, even when I can't pin down why.
My French teacher failed her GCSEs. She was good at English, she'd been helping all the others with it, and then she failed.
But despite that, she's still here, teaching French in an English school in one of the best schools in the country.
And I kind of really admire her.

Wow... That's really uplifting... My English teacher time and time again tells us that it's okay to mess up, of to fail, because we can take that and learn from it, and we're never going to stop learning, so it's okay to not get a perfect score or whatnot, and that he doesn't expect us to.

It's like in The Lone Ranger (we watched in in history at the end of the term. Yah), and there's that woman with the ivory leg and the heel of her ivory leg is actually a gun, and she's lying on this sofa and she says "That man will pay for what he took from me," and all of a sudden, you notice the painting above her, of a young ballerina, and it's her, it's her hair and stuff, and you look down at her ivory leg and her dream was just smashed, just like that, and that moment just hit me emotionally and I don't even know why.
Although in my American West textbook, it was so sad! D:
There was this quote of this Indian talking about the Battle of Wounded Knee, and he was saying that it wasn't only a slaughter of people; a people's dream died there, under the blood and the snow, crushed forever. It was a beautiful dream.
And I can't remember the words but I was just sat there crying and crying.
Because you know . . .
And one lunch people brought up history, and I said how sad it was, and then I was crying, and after a bit when I hadn't stopped crying, my friends were trying to calm me down and my friend was saying "Look, they were always destined to die out. They couldn't have survived," and I was saying "I know, it's so sad!" and I was just crying and they didn't understand, beacsue they were like, well, it would have happened one way or another, and IT'S NOT FAIR because idk, it's just the beauty, the beauty of a civcilisation and a people and they had to die out (their words), and how is that not sad? It's just spending your whole lifetime making this beautiful crystal statue and it's amazing, it's thes best thing ever, it's your life's work, and you know, when you're finishing it, that it will be smashed in a few years, and it's just . . . YOU'VE SPENT YOUR WHOLE LIFE ON IT. It's like in Fabi's dream; the buses were always destined to crash on that corner, and whatever you do, whatever you try, they have to crash.
I wandered so far off from whatever my point was there, but still.
And it wasn't necessarily inevitable. I believe in endless possibilities. *nods*

History is so sad.... I mean, recent history as well. Our teacher showed us a video in the 8th grade about 9/11 and I was sobbing and people were staring and I'm like "FUCK YOU ALL THIS IS TERRIBLE".

@Adra: And I can't really say much because spoilers, but this person shot this other person, and it was really bad, because you know, he died, but it was really good that it had happened, because the person who had shot him would be a much better leader because of it. And previously, if they'd just said "This is the ending. Thepersonwhoshottheperson put away his hatred and learnt to be benevolent forever. They all lived happily ever after. The end", I would have been displeased with that and come on ranting, but as it was more like "This is the ending. Thepersonwhoshottheperson shot him, he realised he didn't want him to die, he felt great remorse, learnt a lot from it, and never made the same mistake again. Although saddened, they lived happily ever after. The end."
And although it wasn't quite exactly like that - spoilers, you know - it was a really good ending beacsue of it.
And sometimes bda things need to happen, people need to fall, beacsue when they get back up, they'll be higher.
One day, I was walking up the stairs really slowly, leaning against the wall, and I worked out that when you have your foot on the step and you've lifted your other foot to put on the next step . . . when you lean over to put your next foot on the next step, your body dips lower slightly, my shoulder slid down the wall a bit, and you have to do down slightly like that in order to put your foot on the step and go soaring upwards.

He was great for my development, too, I think. It's funny because I don't know if anyone was really aware of just how little I actually knew Niccolò while that was happening. He was still basically a stranger to me- I was used to the mix of him and all his other names, so when he came back I really had no idea what to expect from him. The mental link fixed that, though.
I think Alastair forced development in a lot of people- he likes to push people to their limits, physically and mentally/emotionally, and the way he tried to convince everyone of his own beliefs- basically using us all as test subjects- probably forced a lot of introspection, as well.

It's interesting, though . . . maybe you need people to go to the insane extremes like that, to show the rest of the world things that we cannot comprehend from this side of the sanity line. :) And we learnt a lot from him, because his mind works differently to ours, and this is why you need diversity in society; because we work better when we share what we know, as we all get different things from the world.
(Slipknot's vocalist was pretty much drunk all the way through the making of the third album. I'm starting to think that it might explain a lot. :P)

You know, in the way that some of Hunter's ideas just make so much sense, but they just seem impossible because we tend to think in a conventional way, and to think within the borders of society and stuff, and he just acts like they aren't there.

Ah. My favorite thing about the boundaries of society is that they only exist because we say they do. I could do whatever I wanted, really- I could put a shoe on my head and walk across the country with no shoes to live with monkeys and tigers in the mountains. Society would tell me that's crazy, and I shouldn't, but I could do it. Just like, in the middle of a class, I could get up and just stroll out of the room and then out of the school without a word if I wanted to. All the things that bind us are really only there because we say they are.
