I was indeed a happy writer.
So what else have I been up to lately? Well, I've been writing, amazingly enough. I have taken two weeks off Book Nine to focus on coming up with new stories for Armageddon-Outta-Here (haw!) which'll be out next summer.
As a sample of what the new stories will feature, we're talking the Dead Men in the Wild West, the story of how Valkyrie met Caelan, a Billy-Ray Sanguine solo adventure, and Skulduggery Pleasant and Gordon Edgley at a horror-themed masquerade ball, set 25 years ago.
Time is tight, deadlines are onrushing, but I'm having FUN, so none of it seems quite like work. And hopefully it never will.

You know, sometimes Hunter and Ez do these undercover things, and they usually pretend they're going out, for easinessness. It's usually kind of fun. :P And if it has to go on for a while they can often just start telling each other how much they love each other and then they pretend to get so happy about it, and it's just so FUN, you know? And one time, they were at this party or something, and Hunter kind of got really into it and proposed to her . . . ! He didn't exactly MEAN to, he was just in this emotional speech of telling her how incredible she was and it just seemed the logical thing to say. And this old lady who'd been crying into her handkerchief because Hunter's speech was so beautiful practically had a heart attack. XD And Ez kind of looked at him like WE'RE-NOT-MEANT-TO-BE-ATTRACTING-ATTENTION-YOU-IDIOT, and then she just went "For fuck's sake," slapped him in the face and walked off! XD
And then Hunter just acted so heartbroken. :( He was just crying and crying (being totally the centre of attention. Yeah, totally undercover. XD), and he was just talking about their whole fake lives, and how he'd supposedly met her and how much he loved her, and he was just saying that he didn't think he'd survive because she was his whole world. And nothing anybody could do would cheer him up. D: And her talked abour her eyes and her hair and her nose and her toes . . . because apparently she had really cute toes. He was just sobbing about the little toe on her right foot and I SWEAR it was so fun. :)
Ez, meanwhile, completed their mission objective whilst laughing at Hunter through the cameras (which were recording the whole thing. XD), and then she came back in and went up to him and whispered in his ear, too quiet for anyone else to hear - "Let's say I say yes now."
And Hunter just jumped up and swung her round and then he was hugging her and kissing her and just laughing with the sheer joy of it, and the old lady practically had another heart attack, and the whole party was just so pleased, so pleased about them. And Ez was crying now and her makeup was just like kaputt and she was saying she was so sorry, it had just been such a shock, and she'd thought it over and she wanted this, wanted it so much, because she really, really loved him . . . And he was crying as well (again. :P) and they were talking about venues and guest lists and stuff . . . And people around were asking to be invited and Hunter and Ez were like, maybe. :)
And their FACES. Their EXPRESSIONS. They just both looked so, so HAPPY. :)
And then they got home and they looked at each other, the joyous expressions fading off their faces like the rain was washing it away, tears all over their faces, and Ez was just like, what the FUCK.
And then they were just laughing, and doing over-exaggered imitations of each other, and watching the recordings and laughing more.
And THAT, that pretendation, has to be one of the most fun things they've ever done. :)
