Laura was meant to come round yesterday to pick up her copy, but instead she's calling round tonight. While I wait for her to arrive, I've been going over the word counts to all the books so far. I'm very surprised by the first four books— for some reason, I thought everything I've written had been over 80,000 words. Apparently not.
Skulduggery Pleasant was 67,393 words.
Playing With Fire was 69,683.
The Faceless Ones was 69,689.
Dark Days was 77,335.
And now we see the numbers start to jump...
Mortal Coil was 104,000.
Deathbringer was 118,000.
Kingdom of the Wicked was 134,765.
And the second draft of Last Stand of Dead Men is coming in at a back-breaking 156,688 words. Basically, it's twice the length of Dark Days.
I don't know how long it'll be after the edit, but hopefully I'll be able to trim it down a little.

. . . I finished reading Slumdog Millionaire.
Reading steals my life. When I'm reading a new book, I can't stop reading it, and so I lapse out of Blogland. :P
But seriously, the title is a FAIL. XD The book was originally published as Q & A, but when it got made into a movie, it was republished as Slumdog Millionaire because that's what they named the movie. However, in the book, he doesn't win a million rupees; he wins a billion. It's a new quiz show which thinks that offering a billioon instead of a million will gain it more popularity. He's a BILLIONAIRE, and the whole point is he is MORE than a millionaire, and it makes it more exceptional, and yet the title of the book is Slumdog MILLIONAIRE.

SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE WAS A BOOK CALLED Q & A THAT GOT MAD INTO A MOVIE.
See, on our penultimate Georgaphy lesson of the year, we watched the first half of Slumdog Millionaire (because we'd been doing about India and it is obviously set in India), with the promise that we could watch the next half in our last lesson. However, we were watching it with a replacement Georaphy teacher as our usual one had had to teach someone else and had given us up for the last few weeks of term, and our real Geography teacher said we couldn't watch it. Dunno why. COuld have been the swearing, could have been the people getting their eyes burnt out with acid, could have been the fact the terachers were specifically told not to just show films in the last lessons of the year (although everyone was showing us filsm anyway. Me and my friend actually MISSED normal lessons.)
So we didn't watch the rest of Slumdog Millionaire, so I was annoyed. But we did watch the first hour of the Top Gear Indian special, so yay. :)
And I'd seen Slumdog Millionaire in the library in between my penultimate and last Geography lessons, and I was like WHAT IT'S A BOOK oh hey that was good luck spotting it it took me montsh to spot The Secrets Of THe Immortal Nicholas Flamel and I LOOKED for it.
And so after my replacement treacher said sorry, can't watch Slumdog Millionaire, then I got the book out BECAUSE I WANTED TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED.
However, the book is very different to the movie (still a teenager from India knowing the answers to questions on a quiz show and winning a lot of money because he found out all the answers at some point during his life, still a gangster man crippling kids to sing for him, still a borther/friend called Salim, still Salim's mother dying because people came and burnt all the Muslims) AND THAT'S ABOUT ALL THE SIMILARITES I SPOTTED) SO I STILL DON'T KOW WHAT HAPPENED. :P

I just... *sighs* I found out at the beginning of the month that my best friend is going to move to Australia. Then last month I found out that my second best friend can't afford to go to my school any more and is moving. Then another explained that at the end of the year, she's moving to Saudi Arabia, and another is moving to India because of her dad's job, and another is moving schools for a better arts course, and so on. :( I feel like I'm losing everyone.
