Wow.
Okay, that was one of the most fun competitions I've run so far. The Exquisite Corpse competition is shaping up brilliantly— the standard on display is just mind-boggling— but the Spirit Lake contest has just been fun from start to finish.
So here's what I did.
I collected all of the names of the people who entered, both here on this Blog and on Twitter, and I divided them into bundles. I made sure that each and every one had a valid reason for why they should be a video game character. Some of these reasons made sense. Some were just odd. Some were VERY odd. There are people, both Minions and Ronda Rousey fans, who are just unsettling. I'm not entirely sure how their brains work— if indeed their brains work at all.
To give you a hint of what I've been dealing with, here are a few reasons you people gave. "Because of my neurax worms." "Because I like pie." "Because I'm short.""Because I've watched Robot Wars.""Because I have a psychic elephant.""Because I have a need for speed.""Because I'm not very smart (which will make the player feel better about themselves).""Because I am Dr Who.""Because I sometimes think that I'm the only human being in the world. The rest of you are all aliens.""I would make an awesome video game character because I already AM an awesome video game character.""Because I am actually Lakota (the Spirit Lake people are my Dakota relatives)."
So I divided you all up, and those of you who entered multiple times got your names put into as many groups as possible. From each of these groups, a winner was chosen. The winners were then put into a hat.
(Not an ACTUAL hat, since I don't own one, but a METAPHORICAL hat.)
(Okay, fine, I wrote all your names on a sheet of paper and I let my cat walk on it, and the closest one to where her tail touched down was the winner.)
And sooooo... without further ado... the winner is...
Willow Kowalski!
Yayyyyyyy Willow! The only thing I know about Willow is that she's five years old (so, er, she can wait a few years before she starts reading my books) and she's a Ronda fan... It's a lovely prize, and I can't think of anyone it'd make happier.

@Luciana: From what I've read, your writing is usually brilliant.
If what you're working on now is as terrible as you say, though, then maybe there's a reason for that within whatever it is that you're writing, or the way in which you're doing that, or, like, something?
IDK, I think everybody who writes writes badly, some of the time. Sometimes it's better to leave it and come back later, sometimes what's best is to find the problem/s and make corrections, even if that means changing storyline and such; sometimes there are other solutions, and sometimes, actually, it's better than you thought it is, anyway. Take from that what you will. It might well be useless to you, I don't even know if it's relevant, but it's what my brain says, anyway. :) ^^

Here I am, totally interrupting whatever lovely minionish conversation is going on to wonder loudly (as I'm sure someone already has) why the author of Skulduggery Pleasant does not own a single hat.This statement seems further suspicious on the grounds of a blog post made about two years ago subject line: "I wear fedoras now, fedoras are cool." Body of the post "Just have to say, Dr. Who ROCKS!" And while I recognize that this is a reference, I would not have put it past our Golden God to go out and find himself a fedora. Also, given that he lives in Ireland which has a somewhat frigid winter (though, I must say, not as frigid as Minnesota, USA, where I come from) it would be logical to infer that he owns some sort of winter hat, or perhaps a nice pair of earmuffs, though I will excuse him for not using those to pick the winner.
As I haven't posted a comment here in quite a while I'm going to take this opportunity to impart to Mr. Landy how much I absolutely adored The Maleficent Seven. It was absolutely brilliant on all accounts. Also me raving about it has inspired my girlfriend to finally get a move on and finish the series (after being stuck on Dark Days for almost a year).

I just want to say for everyone who has taken part and become heavily involved in the #ChaseForBook9 appeal to Derek.
Not only have you made me so proud of you all but I know that Chase would be so proud of you all to have rallied together to try and make something that seems impossible, hopefully possible.
Not only that but it shows me how much of an influence Chase had on everyone here in Blogland. And the influence he is still having on anyone who is being told his story. I've known him for most of my life and was heavily inspired by him and it is even more amazing that you've known him all since September and he's made an impact on you all.

I've noticed a few... plot holes, with the SP series in general. These are not bad points, I'm just sharing my ideas in the hope you'll include them in one of the books.
1. The Sanctuary MUST have friends within the government.
Can the Sanctuary know EVERY CCTV camera that captures all the explosions? Can they remove ALL the websites that have details about magic on?
So I've created an organisation who can.
They're called the Special Operations of the Supernatural, or the SOS for short.
They provide counter-terrorist services (such as taking down dark sorcerers who want to destroy the world), and also they try and cover things up.
The SOS is made up of the very best men and women from all the security services, and the SAS. There is a lengthy test to see if you can join (you will be notified first if they think you have potential), followed by a harsh training course involving firearms and many mental and fitness tests.
The SOS 'soldiers' are split into squads. Each squad contains a letter and two numbers. For example, A-04, or J-14. The letter shows what part of the headquarters they are in, and the numbers the sub-part. But that's not important.
Every SOS soldier wears full kevlar body armour and a helmet. The helmet is black and covers all of their face with a blue visor (made of bullet-proof glass). It has "SOS" written in silver on the forehead.
The armour itself is also black, though the fatigues underneath are blue and navy coloured in a camouflage pattern.
Each squad contains 4 'Units' and 2 pilots (the pilots don't wear helmets). The 'Units' are named "Unit 1", "Unit 2" etc. This is because the SOS has a strict privacy initiave. This states that no one in the entire department (apart from the Director - the leader) may know your name. Neither is anyone else, which is why they wear helmets.
The weapons used by the SOS are the Colt M4 Carbine and a Beretta M9 pistol. However, they may also have a Heckler & Koch MP5A3 during some of their missions (particulary counter-terrorist - since the MP5 is a great gun in those situations).
The 'soldiers' generally HALO (High Altitude Low Opening) jump into combat situations. Their helmets has a function for a HALO jump so they won't well... die.
They are a secret organisation, and have allies in Sanctuaries all around the world.
NO members of the SOS have magic. They rely on military tactics only to defeat mages. They have a knowledge of magic and how it works, however, since they have to in their line of work.
2. You mentioned the werewolves were low in number. So I've created a reason for this.
The reason is the Apatonynchus. It is a very strange creature.
Its name means 'Deceptive Claw' in Greek.
It is about the size of a large wolf. It has short brown fur and stands on all four legs. It has a spiked tail (2 spikes either side of the tip).
Around its neck, it has frill much like the triceratops. This has been known to change colour depending on how the creature is feeling. Its ears are the shape of a lily, and are set upon the ends of antennae either side of its head.
It is carniverous and has sharp teeth. Its eyes are all yellow (even the 'whites'), and it has a black pupil.
Though its eyes are usable, the creature tends to emit ultrasonic waves like bats do to navigate its way around. Its sense of smell is amazing.
It is a magical creature. Although not from this dimension, they managed to come through in Gordon's caves (or at least, that's where they were first seen). Its magical powers are interesting. It cannot be affected by any magic, violent or not (the reason why it can kill werewolves without the use of silver). It can also walk on walls and ceilings.
And, also, due to a complex mixture of magic when two of the creatures mate, they also generate their own forcefields from birth that is active all the time. Nothing can penetrate the forcefield.
All the creatures of this species have a dislike of werewolves and hunt them down.
It'd be awesome if you could tell me what you think of the ideas and hopefully consider them featuring (even if it's just a mention) in the later SP books.

Ayesha, you download it from the website. It's very easy to use. You just ask people for their yahoo emails (for example, mine is dragonapine@yahoo.com), then you add them. It's like an instant messenger thing. A bit like MSN.
And you can go on group conversations and all sorts. It's simple. We hadn't used it before either. :)
