Ah, Tanith...
Who would have thought you'd be the star of your own book, six years after I had the White Cleaver stab you through the back? Not I, certainly. When I first started writing, I had no plans for you beyond that fight scene. But fate— and my agent— intervened, and you stayed alive, and I am so glad you did.
Now here you are, heading up The Maleficent Seven, going on sale today (in the countries where it IS going on sale, obviously). I had envisioned this as a tiny little book, just a fraction longer than The End of the World, which would keep my precious Minions from gnawing their own arms off in anticipation of the next Skulduggery instalment. But yet again, things did not go according to plan. Yet again, you surprised me. And when I looked up, TMS had morphed from a novella into a book. It's still pretty short, as books go, but it's a lot more substantial than originally intended.
Now then, what public engagements do I have before me to celebrate this launch? Well, this afternoon, between 5 and 6, I have a, er, "twinterview"... is that what they're calling it? Seriously? Anyway, I'll be answering a load of questions that came with the hashtag #AskDerek. Apparently.
Then on Friday I'll be heading into RTE in the morning for the show Elev8, where I'll be talking with the beautiful Diana. And a bloke.
Then on Saturday I have signings in Easons in Blanchardstown at 11 and Easons Dundrum at 3.
On April 5th, there's a public signing in WHSmith in Guildford at 1PM, and my only EVENT at the Stratford Picture House at 5.
On the 6th, I'll be signing in WHSmith in Brent Cross at 11, and Waterstones in Bury St Edmunds at 5.
On the 7th, there is a signing in Waterstones in Norwich at 12.
And that's it. I'm not really sure where the proposed Milton Keynes signing went. Dammit.
Over the next few months I'll be making appearances in Derry, the Hay Festival, Leeds, Wicklow, and Dublin. Further details will be announced closer to the time.

@Mara: I think her banning you from the internet is utterly ridiculous. I don't live in Ireland, but I know that in year seven, our work was really easy (well, looking back, it seems like it :P) we had barely any homework, and although what you learn is relevant to the future and if you didn't do anything, it WOULD be hard to get by next year, you hardy have to be serious about studying and all that.
Neither in year eight, either.
Year nine was more important, because we started the GCSE courses in a lot of things, and people older than us did even more in year nine . . .
But in your first year of high school? DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT. :)

And, I like secondary a lot better than I liked primary, so imo, it's awesomer. :)
On my frist day of secondary school I got lost, as I mentioned, and I also lost my coat, which I didn't mention, beacuse I didn't want to scare you any more. But yes. I lost my coat. And I got really freaked because I'd left it in my IT classroom, and when I went back it was lost and no one was around to unlock the door.
So my first day kind of sucked a bit.
But secondary is still awesome, apart from the fact that, you know, it's school and you have to do work. :P
And . . . yeah.

@Taia: Well . . . I just always just be truthful to people when I don't know what the hell the score is and what their meaning is in saying this or that. Well, maybe not truthful, but just what I would say normally. And then I think they end up finding me odd. :P Because when I don't know what I'm doing, I think just saying what I would say works, because it's sort of something I know, so I know how to play that and it makes sense to me.
. . . Yeah, they definitely find me odd. XD Because I have such a unique way of thinking sometimes. Which seems more unique than it is, when you're in school and people are less deep thinkers. Otherwise it just seems kind of meh, here, I guess. :)
I don't really have a copy method for that, really, Taia, I don't think. So, uh, no advice. :/
But . . . I would say that I would tell myself not to say anything unless I had to, but on the otehr hand that may not be the RIGHT thing to do. Hello.
For those who are not aware, there is a new part of my mass effect story up posted a few hours ago. If it had a title, it'd probably be "the beginning of the end". Because the story is starting to draw to an epic conclusion.
I'm not aloud to video chat and i'm in bed so i can't just audio chat or ill wake my little brothers up.. so i can't really...
And by epic I mean the parts where you learn what the bad guys are up to.

@Mara: Also . . . you know, to me now, friendship squabbles just seem so childish. I remember when we used to have fallings-out all the time, and now . . . the otehr day, something happened between my friend and my other friend, and my friend was just like, oh no! I'm not in a mood with her, but she's going to be in a big mood with me and we have DT next!
And then she decided to just act like everything was normal and see waht happened.
And then as I was walking to my next lesson, I saw my other friend, and my otehr friend said that she wans't in a mood with my friend, but that my friend would probably be in a mood with her so she was nervous, but that she was just going to act normal as if nothing had happened.
So they both just acted as if it was all cool.
And it was all cool.
And nothing came of it.
And that's, like, the biggest falling-out we had all year (with each other. These girls started having lunch with us, and we didn't like them, so we told them to go away, and they did, and THAT'S the biggest fall-out we've had all year total, I think. Unless . . . no, that was last year. Um. *frowns*).
When I think of how it was in year eight . . . that's just incredible. :)

Then maybe a series set after. Showing the aftermath and - if I don't decide to kill anyone - perhaps some Thomi since Star gave it a name. But I'm planning something big for the final part.

We have lockers, but there are only like, twelve of them.
Or maybe a few more than that. A couple of hundred, in the whole school.
A whole block of those is year sevens only, and the others are far and few, and you have to turn up at house office every day until they open them for use, and it costs money, and it just doesn't seem worth it, really. We only ever used them for PE kits during the daytime, and that's it, in the end. I had one in year eight, and that's it. :P
@Star: My mental health is FINE. (It may not be, but I'm still cool with that.. :P) But, yeah. I get points from them. They're good, intentional or not. Imo. *nods* :)

I think I picked up most of my opinions and believing and whatnot from also books, and music, and people who I look up to, and you guys. It's very patchwork-y, in ways, but I kind of like where it's going. :)

@Star: It wasn't even my fault. We were TOLD that it was that bus - though my brother had previously warned me that it actually wasn't, so maybe it was a little my fault for doubting him. It still got me home, it was just not the one I was meant to take, because stuff. :P
It was always a pretty horrible bus though - the kind where people just throw everything they have on-hand. Bottles, gum, anything. It was crazy. But it's better now, as I understand it. :)

Double deckers

The other day, I went on the first ever single-decker bus I'd been on in years, certainly the first since we'd moved here, and we moved here six years ago. XD
I'm used to double-decker buses.
I don't know how it works in Aus, but we have the same buses that are used as public buses, and the school just pays the bus companies to come and have some buses be school buses for a while (actually, two whiles. One to school, one back) each day.
Although, some of them are public buses as well as school buses.
My bus just has school kids on it, because it just stops at my village and then goes to the school, nowhere else.
(My school and my village are five mnutes away by vehicle, but the walking route is longer because you can't go the same way beacuse hazardousness, so buses are needed).

Here, we have coaches and public service buses.
But sometimes the public-service will appear in the form of a coach, which is always really weird.

I love how Slipknot's lyrics start off with one thing "What the fuck are you looking at?", like a question, and then it says "I'll tell you what you're looking at", which is connected to the line before it because looking and answer to question, but it's a subtle shift, beacuse it doesn't actually logically fit, because if you asked that question (in that way), you wouldn't give that answer like that.
