50267 words written... and Valkyrie and Skulduggery are barely in it.
This doesn't mean, of course, that they won't be taking their usual starring roles in Book 8. Of course they will. But I've had to approach this one in a slightly different way than normal.
Because this book is about, essentially, total war, I've had to think long and hard about how the different sides would fight— such as what tactics they would use in both the short and long term. It means I can't chop and change sequences like I usually would. If they're written, then they've been written for a very specific reason, and I can't mess about with that. So I figured the best way to write about these military actions is to write them FIRST. Write the skirmishes and the battles and the politics and the arguments, and get it all down on the page. Then, once I have the military aspect taken care of, I go back and write my usual Skul & Val stuff around and on top of it all.
It's an interesting way of working, to willingly ignore your main characters for large chunks of writing time. I sincerely hope it works...
Oh, and sometime in February I shall announce the title. I've had this title in mind for YEARS. Some of the early alternatives were:

Skulduggery Pleasant: Behind Gold Eyes.
Skulduggery Pleasant: It's War, Baby.
Skulduggery Pleasant: Revenge of the Screaminator.

Skulduggery Pleasant: Gut-Eater.
Skulduggery Pleasant: Skulduggery Goes Camping.
Skulduggery Pleasant: Things Get Nasty.
Skulduggery Pleasant: People Gonna Die.
Skulduggery Pleasant: Readers Gonna Cry.
Skulduggery Pleasant: Horace.
And amazingly, the actual title is better than ANY of those! I know, right?

I don't get what is wrong with me. I don't get what's wrong with me and what's so right with my friend. At the moment, there's this girl we hang out with and she rarely talks to anyone except my firnd who some may know as Blue. She always asks her to go with her when she needs to go places, and she always has a conversation with her, and she won't really just start talking easily with me. I have tried. When there's other people, they generally talk together and I talk with the other person(s). When there's other people, it's fin, but when it;s just the three of us, they like talk and I kind of hang around saying nothing and feeing excluded. Blue of course doesn't notice anything.
Which wouldn't be half as annoying if this wasn't the THIRD TIME we'd been in this situation. This is the THIRD TIME someone has 'tried to steal Blue away from us because they like Blue but think the rest of us are just weird.'
God. Blue's my friend, and I have nothing against her, and she's a nice person and all, but what is she doing so RIGHT??? Why does EVERYONE like her???
I don't get it. At all. I honestly don't get it. I don't really mind all that much so long as this doesn't blow into an arguement. I can live easily. But just because I'm relatively happy doesn't mean I GET it.

I've been in this situation three times in the last year or two. And it's always always always Blue. Which makes it incredibly frustrating . . .
My friends at school are so awesome though. The last time this happened, this girl was coming to lunch with us every day and neither me nor my other friend nor my other friend liked her really, though they dithered, and it was partially coz she was stealing Blue and partially because she wasn't really one of Us and she wasn't all that nice . . . Not mean, just not especially NICE. And then she told me one day she didn't know why I was hanging round with them because I just never said anything really and maybe I should hang round with other people. And I said I had plenty to say, just not on the topics of conversation. And she was like well what do you want to speak about then? And then I can't remember what I said and I just walked off trying not to cry, because I wasn't really upset, I was kinda calm, but I cry when I'm embarrassed, which is, uh, embarrassing, and the other girl was just walking after me in her prety-much-like-the-bogeyman-Lav-is-always-imitating-accent going "I'm sorry but you do understand what I'm saying, right?" And I was just like, "Yes, I completely understand." Because I did. "I understand, just go away. I get it, you don't need to keep telling me."
Only my friends were so jepic coz they completely ditched her for me and we rarely ever see her again. *smiles*
Forever grateful for that. For picking me over her.
She was just not One Of Us at all, though. This is like a mild, watered-down version of that. I'm relatively happy at school atm, thank god. :)

Caine is awesome, though. I stopped liking Astrid after like thefirst book. Sam is meh. Edilio is just . . . Edilio. He's just always THERE, reliable, but kinda in the background, which is SOOOOOO clever, because that's how he's perceived amoungst the characters. :) Quinn is cool, I guess . . .

The flute IS really awesome. I'm not just saying it, I really think the flute is a lovely instrument.
Clarients are too black and round and deep, and violens and too high, and cellos are too awkward to carry round, and trumpets are too loud PLUS THEY ALWAYS PLAY MORDERN MUSIC WHEREAS WE PLAY RANDOM OLD SONGS NO ONE HAS EVER HEARD OF, but flutes are lovely. I'm not just saying it. Always liked flutes. :)

I play cello and viola... I've played violin, too, but I just can't read notes.
I got one of the links to copy, but realized you'd probably prefer one of the other videos... Trying to find the one my dad took...
How come you can read Bass and Alto, but not Treble?

I play only one kind of flute. The standard French kind. I could probably play something simple, like 'Old McDonald' on another kind of flute or fluteoid, but nothing complicated.

I can raed bass clef and I used to be able to know some treble, when I played violen for Wider Ops, but I've mostly forgotten it know.

Oh. It's because cellos and violas have the same strings - A, D, G, and C - whereas violins don't - E, A, D, and G. If you were to look at cello notes to viola notes, a D on a viola would be one higher than a cello note. But on a violin it's way different.
