New Zealand, eh? Lovely country, full of lunatics...
I arrived on Tuesday, checked into my hotel and met up with a friend who's living over here. By nine that night, every time my eyes closed I was in serious danger of falling asleep right there and then. Only the fact that my luggage had been misplaced somewhere between Dublin and Auckland kept me from turning in early. It's not exactly a nice feeling, wondering if you're ever going to see your luggage again. You start thinking about all the clothes you packed, about the toothbrush, about the phone charger you might never see again...
I went to bed, then was woken at 2 AM by reception- my luggage had arrived. They delivered it to my room and I wept manly tears of joy. Or, y'know, I shrugged and mumbled a thank you and went back to bed. Whichever.
It's now Friday night, and tomorrow is my last day in New Zealand. It's been astonishingly good so far. Every school I've been to has been great- really enthusiastic people, ready to have a laugh. Two schools even did a welcoming Haka-type thing, which was awesomely cool.
The public signings have been great too. This afternoon I did one in the Children's Bookshop in Christchurch, where I met a load of readers, including Jordan, a girl who had kept me updated about her status after the recent earthquakes. It's always nice to meet people I only know online, and she had many, MANY questions to ask.
Tomorrow is my last day in NZ, and so the first chunk of my tour will be over. I've really enjoyed my few days here- this was a great way to kick off the tour.

I've just read over what I've just written, and it's all so sickeningly POSITIVE and nice. Bah humbug! There needs to be some grouchy stuff in here in order to be genuine- so I'll just say that I STILL haven't been able to see Katie Taylor winning the gold in boxing, and I am NOT happy about that. I can't even find it on YouTube.
Bah YouTube! Bah!
Every single Irish Minion knows who Katie Taylor is, and they're as proud of her as I am. What a girl.

And really it'd be better off that way. If you want to write stories, that's usually how it's done. Most fanfiction doesn't get published.

*smiles* In my AF fanfic (y'know, the one I make up in my head) I have Holly and Artemis going out together . . . It's a great fanfic, that one. Lots of different aspects. It kinda variates pretty far from the books though . . .
Clarabelle would die almost instantly. She's a ditzy blonde, like myself. I do love Clarabelle, though;D
I just like Valkyrie in general. She's gone through so much in the past 5 years in the books. I think people should cut her some slack, to be honest. She's almost died so many times and she's saved many people's lives and prolonged others. Yeah, she might become *spoilers DD* Darquesse and kill the world *spoiler DD- end* but she's still Valkyrie. Like Skulduggery says 'maybe you're her moodswing'. Maybe it's not her. We don't know and it irritates me that people just hate on her without looking at everything she's gone through. You can't say that you'd come out perfectly the same after everything that happens. SHE LOST HER BEST FRIEND AND MENTOR FOR A YEAR AND SHORTLY AFTER THAT LOST HER OTHER BEST FRIEND. :'( Not to mention the death of her Uncle Gordon within the first line of the first book!
Anyway, I love Valkyrie to pieces and she's awesome. It makes her even more awesome that she's true to herself. <3

L, I know she's been through a ton, but I'm still not sure I can agree with her as a character.
I mean, yeah, she lost her mentor for a year, but I think Skulduggery had a tougher time during those months. And his behavior is acceptable, at least.
I think Valkyrie just tries too hard to be better than everybody, and then tries to hard to act like she wasn't trying at all.

Taia, you believe that and I respect that. Not everyone likes the same things. :)
But, if you say Skulduggery's behaviour is acceptable, given the occurrences of DB, then that makes Valkyrie's behaviour acceptable, as well.
Not to mention the fact that she's at an easily impressionable age and the way Skulduggery acts makes her feel compelled to act in a similar way. She's still trying to find herself, no? I used to be like Val in the way that I wanted to be the best at everything and then I act like I don't care...But, that's due to lack of attention. I'm like that because of a condition I have. Valkyrie is like that because her parents are always too busy to pay her as much attention as she'd like, especially in DB. It's just a craving for attention that she missed out on. ^_^
I just wish people would at least try to understand her. ): I love Val, she's one of the best characters I've ever read about. The way she develops in these books and the depth in her as a character, it's actually fascinating! :D

I just love how realistic Gone is. "Patrick was not some fantasy dog that suddenly learnt to be smart and heroic. He did not pull Lana from the steamint wreckage. But he stayed with her as she spent an hour of hell crawling out on to the sand." Gone says things exactly how they would be in a town with no adults and some kids with strange powers. It doesn't have everyone doing their best to make it through the nightmare. It has people giving up, not bothering, relying on other people, doing the wrong thing. SP quote: "I likey heroes to be, well, the hero." It isn't like that in real life. And leading back to Valkyrie, nobody's perfect. There aren't heroes. There are people who try to do the right thing, but they don't always manage it, and sometimes they go off track.

And I DO know that Skulduggery has a big influence on Val, of course. I was probably wrong about his own behavior being acceptable. :P
It's not like I hate her.
