The Final Trilogy

It’s an unusual sensation, finishing a book.

After all those months of increasingly obsessive work, of deadlines and edits and word counts, when you send in the final draft you’re suddenly free... and you have no idea what to do with yourself.

I usually wander around for a few weeks, gazing blearily into the sun while I struggle to remember how to talk to people. A lot of housework gets done. Rooms are cleaned and shelves are put up. Bulbs are replaced. Cars are serviced. I spent three days last week putting together seven glass cabinets and rearranging my shelving system. When I was finished I stood back, nodded in approval, and then wondered what the hell was I going to do next.
Faithful Minions, ever since I finished Death Bringer I have been at a loss.

Yes, I’ve been working on The End Of The World, but that’s practically finished. It just needs another few hours of writing and it’ll be done. I’m delaying that as much as possible, actually, because I need to have something to write.
I usually play video games when I finish a book, but I finished Infamous 2 weeks ago and I still haven’t started the new Red Faction... it’s sitting there, waiting for me.

I’ve been training, of course. I have the most wonderful black eye that you’ve ever seen, courtesy of a swinging elbow that smashed into my face. Oh the fun...!

But it hasn’t all been black eyes and shelving units. For the past few days I’ve been thinking about the final three Skulduggery books. Only three left. Good God. We’re almost at the end. Well, kind of. We have three years left, which doesn’t sound so bad.

I know EXACTLY what Book Eight is about, and I know EXACTLY what Book Nine NEEDS to be about. But Book Seven... Book Seven is my last chance to come up with a brand new story idea. It has to tick all the boxes and fulfill the requirements and contain certain key moments and scenes that will lead us into the final two books, but apart from that it can be about anything. So, for the past few days, that’s what I’ve been thinking about. For the past few days I’ve been daydreaming, coming up with the next book...

I still haven’t decided on it. I thought it would go one way, then changed my mind and wanted it to be about something else, then changed my mind again. The fact is, I don’t know yet what it’ll be about, but I do know that I’m close to deciding. And when that happens, well... I’ll have started on the Final Trilogy, and in my head at least, I’ll have started to say goodbye to Skulduggery and Valkyrie. It’ll be another three years until I bid them a proper farewell, but it all starts here.

Hey, Bones, I know you weren't asking for suggestions, but I love the name Belladonna! I think that would be nice for a piano, but out of the ones you presented us with, I choose...

Kazumi - Beautiful harmony (Japanese name for a Japanese piano)

Shira - Melody, song

Some wiki facts on Belladonna
~grins~

"Atropa belladonna or Atropa bella-donna, commonly known as Belladonna, Devil's Berries, Death Cherries or Deadly Nightshade"
"The foliage and berries are extremely toxic, containing tropane alkaloids. These toxins include scopolamine and hyoscyamine which cause a bizarre delirium and hallucinations"
"The ancient Romans used it as a poison (the wife of Emperor Augustus and the wife of Claudius both used it to murder contemporaries) and predating this it was used to make poison tipped arrows. The genus name "atropa" comes from Atropos, one of the three Fates in Greek mythology, and the name "bella donna" is derived from Italian and means "beautiful woman."

Isn't that so awesome? I love the name Belladonna :D

Valkyrie? Skulduggery? And friends, enemies, etc? Ending? 3 years? Why does that seem so very soon?? Why??

Oh well, I still have 5 books left to read, before I start reading them all over and over again. (again)

Yes. 5 books. The shame - I have not read Mortal Coil. It's just sitting there by my bed staring at me, as if to say 'Hey. Just read me already!' But, alas, the day has not yet come, for me to read it.

In a way, that could be a good thing, because it gives me more to read before 'Death Bringer' hits the bookshops.

Anyway... Hiii everyoneee!!

Have you ever thought of writing a short novel that is written in Skulduggery's point of view?
I know I'm probably not the only one to notice you have not written a single chapter from the view point of Skulduggery, so this won't be anything new.
But it's an awesome idea, because I thought of it :D

Sisters of the Light lyrics (cuz im really bored lol)

Follow me through the night
We are sisters of the light

Follow me through the night
We are sisters of the light
We are daughters of sin
We are laughter in the wind
Follow me through the night
We are sisters of the light
We are wild, We are free
Through the darkness follow me!

I am here to break the silence and
I want you to be the voice of mine

Follow me, Follow me, Follow me now

Follow me through the night
We are sisters of the light
We are daughters of sin
We are laughter in the wind
Follow me through the night
We are sisters of the light
We are wild, We are free
Through the darkness follow me!

You alone, you can let time stand still and
You create the missing element

We're the fires of hell
We're the deep rough sea
We're the stormy air
We are we
We're the ashes of time
And we are banshee
Through the darkness, sisters, follow me!

Follow me, Follow me, Follow me now!

Follow me through the night
We are sisters of the light
We are daughters of sin
We are laughter in the wind
Follow me through the night
We are sisters of the light
We are wild, we are free
Through the darkness follow me!

Sisters of the light
Sisters of the light

Follow me through the night
We are sisters of the light
We are daughters of sin
We are laughter in the wind
Follow me through the night
We are sisters of the light
We are wild, We are free
Through the darkness follow me!

We are sisters of the light

It is NOT goodbye, Master Derek. No one will ever say a "proper goodbye" to Skul-man and Val. I mean, sure, the books will be over, and we'll all cry a lot after we finish the ninth book and probably have nightmares about there being no more Skulduggery books for months on end, BUT! It's still not goodbye, and it never will be. Because I know that all the minions on here, myself included, AND YOU, Derek, will always keep the Skulduggery books on our shelves and in our heart-shelves too. Because not only are they a fantastic source of entertainment and we've fallen in love with the characters so many times over, but they've provided the basis for this amazing little community of people of all ages from across the world. And I KNOW you think we're awesome, Derek. I KNOW it.

*grins*

What I'm trying to say is, that, it doesn't matter if you've finished the book series. Because you've accomplished so much with these books, inspired so many people, that the characters will always be with us.

Ehem. Well, now that that's over, I'm going to go to the issue of your boredom. Sorry I started at the bottom of the post, but I've run into so many walls today, that my mind is a bit scrambled. Anywho....

I have some ideas for you:

1) Take apart and try to put something back together without instructions, just for the heck of it.

2) Annoy your family. That always works for me :D

3) Write your loyal minions a blog post that shows what it would be like if Skul-man and Val took over your blog~

4) Watch Doctor Who.

5) Uhhh...watch more Doctor Who.
.....
.....
.....
.....
I'm out. I'll let you know what I have more ideas.

Dear Mr. Landy,

I don't want to think about saying goodbye to anyone, so I'm just going to ignore all that.

But you need things to do! So I have kindly compiled a list of suggestions for you.

1. Visit the US. You definitely need to see Connecticut, Louisiana, Michigan, a state near Michigan, but I can't remember which one, Washington I think - or is it Oregon?, and most importantly, California. Your prettiest fans are all in California. The climate's generally nice, too... that big burning ball of yellow-white in the sky? That's the sun! I think you'll be impressed. Make sure you get some pictures to show your friends back in Ireland.

2. Post lots of pictures! Of yourself, your injuries (it's totally not creepy that I want to see your black eye. It's not!), your friends and family, your pets, other people's pets, your house, your collection of Skulduggery knickknacks. Your yard. The fence the pony ate. Fanservice.

3. Build and fly a remote-controlled aircraft.

4. Build and fly a real aircraft.

5. Learn to surf! Then when you come to CA, you can show off your mad surfing skills, and I can get pictures of you in a wetsuit.

6. Make a Skulduggery costume for yourself, and a Valkyrie one for Laura. Dress up and take lots of pictures. Post them.

7. Blog more!

8. Start a new blog account under a different name, and hang out with your fans incognito.

9. Visit every one of our blogs and leave trollish comments.

10. Come to chat and do the same... I'm not recommending this one highly, cause I hardly ever get to chat so it wouldn't be all that entertaining for me.

11. Grow your own vegetables.

12. Get to know a goat. Goats are cool!

13. Post that chapter you promised us.

14. Read fanfic! I wrote one... maybe don't read that one. NM. Look at fanart! And post links to your favorites.

15. Flirt with your fans - but just the ones who are at least your age. XD

16. Work on the MUSICAL.

17. Come up with a TV series idea. Produce it.

18. Enter a yo-yo contest. Try not to hurt yourself.

19. Volunteer at a shelter, rescue, or rehab facility for.. anything really. Horses, humans, wildlife, puppies and kitties.

20. Make messy art... no, that's a bad idea. Make regular art, and show it to us.

21. Write something you want to write, but couldn't get published, and post it as fic under a different name.

22. Teach one of your dogs to do search-and-rescue or something interesting like that.

23. Record yourself singing and post it for us to listen to.

24. Fine. Then record yourself reading a chapter from DB, and post that for us to listen to.

25. Learn to make sag paneer, then come here and make dinner for me.

There, that should keep you busy for a while! Have fun!

love,
me

I'd still bring you cheese, you know, Derek. I know I promised it ages ago, and I know I'd be highly shy and turning bright red for bringing it, but I'd do it anyone because you're just that awesome! :D

Even though he's a fictional character, he's still awesome for noticing then ranting about the misspelling of "your" when the person was trying to say "you are."
But you watch, one of these days he's going to fail me utterly and say "snuck" rather than "sneaked" like it supposed to be...

Liz said...

A lot :T too much for me to afford

Ann Marie said...

Um. What was I going to say?

I need more coffee.

Hi Lizzy!

I need to learn to make cheese. If the dogs didn't like milk, we'd be drowning in it.

Liz said...

Hey Ann! I want to learn how to make cheese too ^^

Have any of you ever watched the show Persons Unknown?
I don't know if it's a fairly recent show or an old show or what, but I recently started watching it, and it's pretty cool! Reminds me of something Ted Dekker would write. Ted Dekker stuff, if you don't know, seems to often be about a psychopath and his victims. They're often really creepy or... disturbing, but really REALLY good all the same.

Derek, I really do insist that there should be a cat somewhere in the book. And a top hat. Skulduggery Pleasant will never end. Not so long as we're all here. And that is a promise. Skulduggery has meant too much to me and helped me too much for me to let it be forgotten.

Ev's boredom defeating tactics:

1) Stand on the side of the road in a monkey suit and wave at passing cars.

2) Throw Skittles at random strangers.

3) Intercept the signal of a television network. Broadcast a video of
yourself doing the hokey pokey.

I think I would die before too long if I was in a desert. I'm not used to not having water and I hate going thirsty. Ever since I was a little girl I had to have a cup of water next to my bed when I went to sleep. Well, I have a bottle of water nowadays, but one time we ran out of regular water and had only sink water. [the sink water around here, is DISGUSTING, I'm afraid, but I hadn't had any water since, like, 3 the day before so I was dieing of thirst and actually drank that disgusting water.... What was I talking about in the beginning? Oh yeah, so, I'd die pretty quick in a desert and I think deserts are my worst fear of a habitat [or whatever you call it...] on earth.

Skyril A.K.A the Vociferous Chatterer, Loyal Forever and Always, The Ever-Present, the Pluviophile said...

@Raven
I'm alright, thanks, although really tired and I think if I was to talk allowed at this current moment my speech would be slurred... and by the way, this weariness is not only brought on my the restlessness of three hours last night, but week sof staying up late and getting up relatively early most of the time... I should really sleep all day one of these days... but I wouldn't like doing that, see, because I hate wasting the day sleeping. Night is made for that and in the day I could be chatting with friends or writing or doing something fun, at least.

What kind of pasta? There are many types you know... fettucini, penne, bow tie, angel hair, vermacelli... and the sauces come in multitudes as well, marinara, meat sauce, alfredo. And often people mix meats with those pasta like chicken or sausage or hamburger meat....

I find people who ride unicycles are very interesting... did you know that the guy who plays Ron in Harry Potter rides a unicycle?

Ann Marie said...

I grew up in the desert. You learn to carry water with you. We have a good well here, but I worry about it going dry. *shudders*

Skyril A.K.A the Vociferous Chatterer, Loyal Forever and Always, The Ever-Present, the Pluviophile said...

Really? You grew up in a desert? Oh yeah... I forgot you told me that sometime... And yeah you could bring water with you, but what if you ran out of water or got lost or got stuck in a sandstorm? Hmmm??
You should buy some emergencies supplies of water sometimes, just in case....

Ok... I should REALLY go to sleep now... it's been 13 minutes when I said 5... good-night everyone!

There... that's better....

Ann Marie said...

Seriously, I wouldn't wander out into the desert without as much water as I expected to need, and knowledge of where I could get more if I got stuck. And telling people where I was going and when I expected to be back. A lot of desert plants store water, too, so staying near vegetation would be smart. Broad-leaved, shallow-rooted plants will tell you there's water near the surface... I haven't had to worry about it for a while.

nights.raven said...

i wouldnt go anywhere near a desert to begin with lol
