I do have a rule that I only respond to comments within the comments section itself, but just this once I'm going to make an exception before I go to bed.
First of all- Ann Marie, I hate losing pets, no matter what sort of pet it is. A pet is a pet, and for those of us who love animals, we all know what it's like to lose one. You poor thing.
Second of all- Lenka, get back here, young lady. Do not let some unimaginative teacher tell you that writing is a waste of time. I spent my entire life dreaming about things and people that don't actually exist- and now that I'm a writer, I do the same thing but I'm paid for it. And one of the nicest things about being a professional writer is that, occasionally, I get to inspire someone else to write. Lenka- you've got talent. Don't let it fade away.
As for the rest of you, why don't you fill the LAST comment section before you fill this one? That gives you ten thousand comments to make.

Lenka, nine out of ten authors have been told at some point that their work isn't good enough. You should take this as motivation to prove them wrong. I mean, whoever it was who told you you're not good enough, they obviously aren't good enough themselves.
Ann-Marie, I'm so sorry to hear about your pet. Losing a pet is one of the most devastating things. It's unfair that humans have such long lives, yet their companions have such short lives. I guess humans have a lot more to learn, like how to love. Animals already know how so they don't need to be here as long.

Hai Derek. I know you just said you rarely respond to comments, but if you're feeling nice and stuff, I would like you to answer my question either here or on Bebo (I'm Ashione Flare/Georgina Howlett, you know me.) My question for you, dear Derek, is this. Have you ever heard of NaNoWriMo?
If you haven't then go look it up. It's a competition that's held worldwide in November. The competition is to write 50,000 words of a novel in one month/30 days/November. Seeing as, you know, you have September releases now, I figured that you might be writing each new Skulduggery book at around November time. Because of this, that's why I mentioned NaNoWriMo. AAAANYWAY. Another question, a smaller one, is have you put anyone into Death Bringer? You put Olivia/Flaring and Rowan/Shakra into Mortal Coil, and I was just wondering. You know, how your crazy minions do.

And Ann Marie, I've never had a pet due to my mum's allergies but I love animals and losing one close to your heart must be terrible. Keep your chin up and be happy in the knowledge you have all these friends to support you.

wow I remember when I was a heavy commenter on the blog posts XP I kinda dropped off the face of the earth (...actually I bought minecraft)
So, Derek, if one of your readers said they were writing about a mysterious skeleton character who was also a fire welding detective (different name though) what would you say? Would that seem TOO unoriginal to you or would it simply feel like strong inspiration? What if such a work was published, how would you feel then?
Oh, and, balaczter, my english teacher put together an after school club for writing and while we can't always bring in our longer works, we bring in our short stories, prose, poems, etc. and it's great to have other people that you can give your writing to, so I'd suggest trying to get together a small group of people or maybe talk to teachers about making an official little club! Also, I remember very, very clearly, early in the school year, my teacher brought in four boxes: one had some acceptance letters, and the other three were PACKED with rejection letters. He kept them all and he had A LOT, but since then he's gotten small works published. Just because one or 100 people say no, that doesn't mean NO one will say yes. If you have passion for it, you will try your hardest and search for that one person who will give you your yes. :)

And speaking of pets, I had to 'babysit' a wild baby bunny for about an hour until my dad was done cutting the grass in the area that it was in. Poor thing, it's little heart went a mile a minute anytime anyone else came near or the lawn mower was near.

I write Skulduggery Pleasant Fan Fiction on Wattpad. I LOVE SP!
It makes me angry that teachers actually try to steer kids away from writing; I mean, being teachers, I would have thought they'd do the opposite (but no, can't have kids wasting their time with stories, can we? *facepalm).
I was lucky enough to be encouraged to write by my own teachers (then again, I didn't give them much choice, since I shoved a bundle of handwritten pages into their hands each week for them to critique). Unfortunately the discouragement comes from my own family, who offer me such pearls of wisdom as "The world doesn't need more books" or "How bout you stop wasting time making up stories and do something constructive?" I generally ignore them and write anyway; I'm a writer, I have no choice, if I don't get all my story ideas out of my head, I'll go insane. But it just annoys me... After all, I don't stand behind them while they're watching TV and go "How is that being productive? Go and do something useful, like invent a dingo-juggling machine?"
Coz one of those would be handy.
The point is, writing should NEVER be discouraged.

Hello, I'm just another avid fan of the SP books. In fact, I kind of live and breathe 'em. I've been known to scream in the bookstore when I see a new volume of the series. I love to write in my spare time and your novels have helped me explore what little of a humourous side I have. (I am not talented at all when it comes to writing with humour.) So I applied what I think I learned from your books and wrote a sort of satire story... I turned it in for English, and got an extremely good mark. So, in addition to writing some of the most entertaining books I've ever read, you've helped me grow as a writer. I can't thank you enough.

My mum onlmost grounded me when she found out i went on this blog, i had to reasure her that it was safe and that i wont give out peronal detailes, so all is well; everytime i go on the computer, my mum says "are you on that blog thing again!"
